Matt Danzeisen is an investment professional whose career spans BlackRock, Thiel Capital, Asian private equity and the Bridgetown acquisition companies. He is also Peter Thiel’s husband; the pair married in 2017. His professional record stretches back well before that wedding, with work in investment banking, bond portfolios and financial technology.

Two deals help explain the scale and focus of that work. As chairman of Bridgetown 2, Danzeisen was involved in the transaction that brought PropertyGuru to the New York Stock Exchange in 2022. The separate Bridgetown Holdings combined with MoneyHero the following year. Understanding which company did which deal gives a much clearer picture of his career than treating every Thiel-linked business as the same organisation.

From investment banking to BlackRock

Danzeisen studied at Cornell University, earning a degree in finance with a minor in economics. Haymaker Ventures’ official biography also identifies him as a CFA charterholder. These are the educational qualifications attached to his investment career; the biography does not supply a graduation date.

His early employment is set out more precisely in Bridgetown’s October 2020 prospectus. He worked as an investment banker at Banc of America Securities from 2000 to 2001, then as a vice president and portfolio manager in BlackRock’s fixed-income division from 2002 to 2008.

Fixed income covers investments such as bonds, which provide financing to their issuers. That background is a useful distinction when describing his later work: his career began in established financial institutions before moving towards private businesses and investment funds.

Thiel Capital and financial technology

The same prospectus dates his move to Thiel Capital and its predecessor, Clarium Capital Management, to 2008. By 2020, it described him as head of private investments, concentrating on companies and funds in the United States and Asia.

It also linked him to a strategy involving both debt and equity investments in financial technology. Those are different ways of financing a business: debt involves lending, while equity provides an ownership interest.

The prospectus listed board roles at Trumid, an electronic bond-trading platform, from 2015, and at Artivest and Coru from 2018. Artivest focused on access to alternative investments, while Coru operated in personal financial management. These are dated examples of his involvement, rather than a statement that every board appointment remains current.

An Australian government announcement offers a separate glimpse of the work. On 2 February 2016, it named Danzeisen as a Thiel Capital portfolio manager taking part in a Victorian fintech investment event. Local start-ups were to pitch to investors alongside discussions about how large investment funds could support technology businesses. Danzeisen’s accompanying comments highlighted the opportunity to build innovative financial-services companies on Australia’s existing financial infrastructure.

Crescendo and the focus on Asia

Danzeisen’s work in Asia also includes co-founding Crescendo Equity Partners in 2012. A Bridgetown 2 registration statement identifies Crescendo as a South Korea-based private-equity firm investing in technology supply-chain businesses across South Korea and Southeast Asia. It records his service on the investment committee and as a representative to selected portfolio companies.

That focus extends beyond consumer-facing apps. A technology supply chain includes the businesses and capabilities that support the products other companies sell, giving this part of his career a different emphasis from online financial marketplaces.

Danzeisen described his regional responsibilities directly during a 2021 PropertyGuru investor presentation: “I run a lot of Thiel Capital’s efforts in Asia”. He went on to refer to work in Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia. In the same presentation, he explained that Thiel Capital and Pacific Century Group wanted to help regional technology businesses raise capital and gain international visibility.

What happened to the Bridgetown companies?

Bridgetown Holdings and Bridgetown 2 Holdings were separate special-purpose acquisition companies, usually shortened to SPACs. A SPAC raises money before combining with an operating business. The distinction matters here because the two vehicles led to different companies and different transactions.

Two separate transactions: Bridgetown 2 combined with PropertyGuru in 2022; Bridgetown Holdings combined with MoneyHero in 2023. PropertyGuru was acquired by EQT and delisted in 2024.

Bridgetown 2 and PropertyGuru

PropertyGuru’s March 2022 completion announcement identified Danzeisen as Bridgetown 2’s chairman. The deal provided approximately US$254 million in gross proceeds to PropertyGuru, the Southeast Asian property-technology business. Its services included online property listings and tools for agents and developers.

PropertyGuru announced its New York Stock Exchange listing under the symbol PGRU, with trading expected to begin on 18 March 2022. The transaction connected Danzeisen’s Asian investment work with a public-market listing, but his role as chairman of the acquisition vehicle should not be confused with running PropertyGuru’s day-to-day operations.

That public listing is now a historical milestone: EQT completed its acquisition of PropertyGuru on 13 December 2024, when its shares ceased trading and the business became privately held.

Bridgetown Holdings and MoneyHero

The original Bridgetown Holdings took a different route. According to MoneyHero’s October 2023 filing, its combination with the financial-products comparison business closed on 12 October 2023, Eastern Time. The announcement the following day named Danzeisen as Bridgetown’s chairman and reported approximately US$100 million in gross proceeds.

MoneyHero connected consumers with financial institutions through online comparison services. Together, the two Bridgetown deals illustrate a recurring area of Danzeisen’s work: financing platforms that move established services, whether property searches or financial-product discovery, online.

His marriage to Peter Thiel

Axios reported an October 2017 wedding celebration in Vienna, where guests had expected a birthday party for Thiel. Thiel is the technology investor and PayPal co-founder.

By then, Danzeisen had spent nearly a decade working within Thiel’s investment businesses.

The role Haymaker lists today

As checked on 7 October 2026, Haymaker Ventures’ team page lists Danzeisen as head of its investment advisory committee. It also records his collaboration at Thiel Capital with Haymaker managing partner Phin Upham. The wording identifies an advisory responsibility, distinct from the managing-partner position held by Upham.

Final Thoughts

Matt Danzeisen’s public record is most useful when its separate roles are kept clear: institutional investor, private-investment specialist and acquisition-company chairman. The dated filings and company announcements show how those responsibilities developed, while distinguishing completed transactions from the positions companies list today.
